Over the last 30 years, I have learned that anything can happen in pursuit of finding your purpose, and throughout my career I have not been afraid to challenge societal expectations and norms. My journey began in accounting, where I learned firsthand how financial discipline drives business success. However, over time, I came to appreciate that business success requires the societies and environments in which these businesses operate, to also thrive.
In 2007, I founded Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Solutions Limited, a consultancy established with a vision of helping organisations become more socially and environmentally responsible; providing a broad range of sustainability services.
After fifteen years, my journey took me down another path and I ventured into the legal domain, studying law and completing the Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School, culminating in my admission to practise in the Supreme Court of Judicature of Trinidad and Tobago. This helped me forge a path where I could infuse my vast experience in sustainability with my knowledge of law and legal frameworks.
In January 2025, I founded Melanie J. Richards Consulting, where I serve as a corporate sustainability practitioner and attorney-at-law, helping organisations thrive legally, and responsibly. Today, I continue to help organisations fulfil their commitment to the well-being of society and the environment by operating sustainably, while also carving a unique niche as an attorney for the Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) sector, advocating for good governance and compliance.
